ICF Canoe Slalom World Cup Youth take center stage

The youths stole the show at ICF Canoe Slalom World Cup
On the first day of the International Canoe Federation Slalom World Cup in Pau on Friday, the victors of the heats included two paddlers in their youth years as well as Denis Gargaud Chanut, who won the gold medal at the 2016 Olympic Games. This is the fourth cup of the 2022 season.
Titouan Castryck of France and Zuzana Pankova of Slovakia, both aged 17, achieved the fastest timings in the men’s and women’s kayak and canoe heats, respectively. Eliska Mintalova of Slovakia, also aged 17, was the fastest paddler in the women’s K1 heat. Mintalova is the U23 world champion.
Gargaud Chanut capitalized on the opportunity to race on his home track by posting the quickest time in the men’s C1 competition.
“There were certain things that were really peculiar to say the least. As an illustration, take the second upstream on the left. This is the first time I’ve ever paddled there. However, there was no problem at all, “Gargaud Chanut stated.
After a long wait, the results showed that Mintalova had finished first in the women’s K1 competition, finishing ahead of the German team of Ricarda Funk and Elena Lilik.
“Mintalova said that “it was alright, although I had some difficulty at the bottom half of the race.”
“The class was a bit on the challenging side. Now, before the semifinal, I need to have a decent night’s sleep.”
Pankova had to wait quite a while as well, but the junior world champion from 2022 had already produced a time that not even Olympic or world champions could beat.

“It comes as complete and utter shock. “I was pleased with my performance, but I had no idea this was going to happen,” Pankova remarked.
“The run was nice, although there were a few of close calls; I nearly hit a gate and had to take a spin, but I was incredibly glad that I controlled it and put together a strong run. The run overall was terrific.”
Castryck has had a phenomenal slalom season, as evidenced by his victory in the K1 junior world title competition as well as the European K1 and extreme slalom junior championships. This form was maintained on Friday, when he posted the quickest heat time in Pau.
“He said that his run had been “very nice” and “quite smooth.”
“It was quick enough to secure first place. But this is only the beginning of the heat. Let’s see how things go tomorrow; I have a feeling the challenge will be higher.”
On Saturday, the men’s and women’s K1 finals, as well as the early stages of the extreme kayak competition, will take place.
