Luzan and Fuksa excite the crowd in ICF Canoe Sprint World Cup

Luzan, who like with her other Ukrainian colleagues has not been home since the Russian invasion in February, battled deep to win the women’s C1 1000 final to finish off a hectic day for the 25-year-old.
On the first day of the ICF canoe sprint world cup, which took place in Racice on Saturday, the highlights from the non-Olympic events included a victory that was emotional for Ukraine’s Liudmyla Luzan and a victory that was joyful for Martin Fuksa because it took place in his hometown.

Martin Fuksa entered this weekend’s ICF world cup as one of the biggest medal hopes for the host nation, and he did not disappoint the boisterous audience with a stunning triumph in the men’s C1 500 event.
In order for Fuksa to win the gold, he had to defeat Isaquias dos Santos, who had already won the Olympic title for the C1 1000.
Fuksa remarked that his success in the first competition of the year, which took place in front of his family and friends, was ideal.
“I’m satisfied with how the fight went since it was a fantastic battle with the Olympic champion.”
Yarisleidis Duboys and Katherin Segura of Cuba had a productive day, winning bronze in the women’s C2 500 event and then going on to win gold in the C2 200 event just a short while later.
Henrikas Zustautas, who hails from Lithuania, has had his hope of competing in the Olympics reignited since the introduction of the men’s C2 500. On Saturday, he celebrated his victory by taking first place in the men’s C1 200.
The current world champion claimed that with the cancellation of the C1 200 as an Olympic event, he feared that his chance to compete in the Olympics was ended. However, he added that the C2 500 had given him a new opportunity.
According to Zustautas, “The C2 is my priority today since it is an Olympic distance, and because the 1000 proved to be too difficult for me.”
“At this point, we have 500.” I feel more energized and motivated to carry on.”
After a difficult victory in the K1 500 competition in Racice, Jakob Thordsen of Germany is optimistic that he has secured his spot in this year’s global championships.
“It’s complicated in Germany because we had two Germans in this final and it was a selection race, so I’m glad I made it. I’m thrilled I made it. “Let us see what the next step entails,” remarked Thordsen.
