Martikan the 5 time Olympian Winner is among those competing in the ICF Canoe Slalom World Cup

Among these competitors will be five-time Olympian Michal Martikan, who is scheduled to make his first international appearance of the year. At the fourth and final ICF Canoe Slalom World Cup of the 2022 season, which will take place this weekend in Pau, France, more than 220 athletes from almost 40 countries will compete.
Martikan, at 43 years old, is a two-time Olympic gold medallist as well as an Olympic silver medalist. He won his first gold medal, as well as Slovakia’s first ever gold medal, in the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta. In addition, he won the gold medal in the Olympics in Beijing in 2008, as well as the silver medal in both Sydney and Athens. At his final Olympic competition, which took place in London in 2012, he was awarded the bronze medal.
Martikan has only won one individual medal on the Pau course during his whole career
Tt was a bronze in the C1 category at the 2017 ICF world championships. His career in the world cup began in 1994.
This coming weekend will include competition from all six of the current leaders in the standings for the 2022 World Cup. Mallory Franklin of Great Britain, who is presently leading the C1 standings, is going to compete on the same track that she won her maiden world title on in 2017.
Luka Bozic and Olympic gold winner Benjamin Savsek, both of Slovenia, are now tied for the lead in the men’s C1 competition. Nicolas Gestin, of France, is only four points behind them.
In the men’s K1 competition, Jiri Prskavec of the Czech Republic is presently leading Peter Kauzer of Slovenia by ten points. In the women’s K1 competition, Jessica Fox of Australia will be trying to extend her perfect start to the season by claiming a fourth consecutive victory.
Fox will also be eager to turn her season around in the women’s C1 event, which is the competition in which she won the gold medal at the Olympics the previous year. Fox has not yet finished on the podium in any of the three global cups that have been held in 2022, but she did win a silver medal at the world championships that were held only a month ago.
Younger sister Noemie comes to Pau presently sitting in second position behind Czech Tereza Fiserova in the women’s extreme slalom. Meanwhile, 2016 Olympic gold champion Joe Clarke stands atop the men’s table in the K1 competition after earning silver and bronze at the initial two world cups.
