The ICF World Cup final widens the field for the slalom championships

After four ICF World Cups, all six championships are still up for grabs in the quest for canoe slalom season supremacy, which will be determined this weekend at Spain’s La Seu venue
The 2022 season finale will provide double points. As opposed to the typical 60, 110, and 100 points for silver and bronze, a gold medal will earn 120 points. Jessica Fox of Australia, who has a dominating 64-point lead following a flawless K1 season, could yet give it up on Saturday.
The Australian, however, took first place in both the K1 and C1 events at the ICF world cup held at La Seu last year, and she has won six C1 gold medals at the former Barcelona Olympic venue.
Fox has dominated the K1 this season, winning all four globe cups for a flawless total of 240 points. Tereza Fiserova of the Czech Republic, who has 176 points and two medals a silver and a bronze is the next-best scorer.
Fox, on the other hand, has had a challenging season in the canoe; her bronze medal in Pau last weekend was her lone podium finish. With 142 points and fourth place on the scoreboard, the Olympic gold medallist is headed to La Seu.
Mallory Franklin of Great Britain hasn’t missed a C1 final all season and won gold in Tacen and Krakow to put herself in a dominating position going into the double points weekend.
The silver medalist from Tokyo has 190 points, about 40 points more than Fiserova (151), who hasn’t finished on the podium since winning in Prague on the first weekend, and German Elena Lilik (148).

Men’s C1 leader Luka Bozic of Slovenia and Benjamin Savsek are separated by just five points. Bozic, who is incredibly consistent, started the season with a gold medal in Prague and has since added two silvers to his total, giving him 202 points overall. Savsek, who won the gold medal in Tokyo, has 197 points and a silver and two bronzes.
With a gold in Krakow and a silver in Prague, Frenchman Niolas Gestin has 189 points, while Olympic gold medalist Denis Gargaud Chanut has 157 points and has put himself in contention for overall success after winning in Pau last weekend.
Jiri Prskavec, the men’s K1 gold winner from Tokyo, is currently in first place with 197 points after winning gold in Tacen and a bronze in Krakow. Martin Dougoud of Switzerland, who has won a silver and a bronze medal, is 25 points behind on 172, and Vit Prindis of the Czech Republic, who won the gold medal in Krakow, is another 20 points down on 152.
With only eight points separating the top three competitors in the men’s division and five points separating the top two in the women’s, there is a close battle for overall world cup victory in the extreme slalom races.
Despite having only one podium finish this season a gold in Tacen Isak Sweden’s Ohrstrom is the leader in the men’s rankings with 114 points. Pedro Goncalves of Brazil is in second place with 106 points, one point ahead of two-time world champion Joseph Clarke of Great Britain.
Czech Fiserova, who finished first in the first world cup, added fourth-place finishes at the following two competitions to finish with 152 points. Noemie Fox of Australia is in second place with 147 points. Kimberley Woods of the United Kingdom is presently in third place with 127 points.
In 2021, Gargaud Chanut won the men’s C1, Jessica Fox won the women’s K1 overall title, Vit Prindis of the Czech Republic won the men’s K1, and Jessica Fox finished just four points behind Fiserova in the C1. While Caroline Trompeter of Germany won the women’s competition, Prindis also won the men’s extreme slalom competition.
